ABC #1 in 18-49 for the week

Overall: ABC won its 2nd consecutive week in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ranking #1 in Adults 18-49 for the 4th time in 5 weeks and leading its nearest competitor by 59% (NBC).  The Net also finished #1 in Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, as well as across all key Men and Women demos. ABC aired 6 of the Top 15 TV programs in Adults 18-49, as the 2013 NBA Finals games finished as the Top 3 programs:  NBA Finals on ABC-GM 4 – #1, NBA Finals on ABC-GM 5 – #2, NBA Finals on ABC-GM 3 – #3, Kia NBA Countdown-GM 4 – #12, Kia NBA Countdown-GM 3 – #14 and The Bachelorette – #15.  In addition, Games 3-5 of The Finals qualified as the week’s Top 3 most-watched television shows overall.  The Net delivered the week’s Top 3 newsmagazines in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 with 20/20, What Would You Do? and ABC’s The Lookout, respectively.  Growing 35% in Adults 18-49 week to week, ABC earned its highest-rated non-Oscar week in 1 year – since w/o 6/11/12.


Monday: With The Bachelorette and Mistresses, ABC earned second place on Monday night Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.  ABC’s Mistresses became the first new scripted summer series this year to grow from its debut among Adults 18-49.  A big gainer in TV playback, the prior week’s Mistresses debut saw a 41% increase in the Live + 3 Day Adult 18-49 ratings.  Opposite The Voice, ABC’s The Bachelorette held the #2 position in its 2-hour time period with viewers and young adults. The ABC unscripted series was up week to week in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.  During the 10 o’clock, ABC’s Mistresses grew from its week-ago debut by 17% in Adults 18-49.  In addition to becoming the first new scripted summer series to build on its debut in the key adult demo, Mistresses grew the most from its premiere telecast amongst all of the summer’s series to-date.  Please Note:  From the Live + Same Day ratings to the Live + 3 Day ratings, last week’s debut of Mistresses shot up 41% among Adults 18-49, building from a 1.24 rating to a 1.75 rating.

Tuesday: Dominating all 3 nights of coverage of the 2013 NBA Finals (Miami-San Antonio), ABC won Tuesday by a margin of 40% in Adults 18-49 over runner-up NBC with the season’s penultimate episode of The Voice-TUE and America’s Got Talent. The Net also led by wide margins with Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and across all key Men demos. ABC earned its top-rated Tuesday in nearly 1 year among Adults 18-49 – since 06/19/12.  Airing around the NBA Finals in various time periods across the country, Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night continues to deliver broad exposure for the ABC late-night talker in primetime. ABC’s JKL Game Night 3 jumped over the comparable telecast last year by 22% in viewers and by 22% in young adults (06/17/12) to deliver its best-ever Game Night 3 numbers.  It was also up sharply from last Sunday’s Game Night 2 broadcast in viewers (+27%) and young adults (+57%).  With the Miami Heat at the San Antonio Spurs, ABC’s NBA Finals Game 3 (9:00-11:38pm ET) was Tuesday’s #1 television program in Total Viewers and in each of the key Adult demographics (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54). It was the 3rd straight telecast for the 2013 NBA Finals to stand as the #1 TV show of the evening. San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat 113-77 to lead the best-of-seven series 2-1. The 36-point margin of victory was the 3rd-largest in NBA Finals history.

Wednesday: Despite facing the high-rated NHL Stanley Cup Finals (Chicago Blackhawks-Boston Bruins Game 1) during Wednesday’s 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s The Lookout grew week to week in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%), while maintaining its Adult 18-49 audience for its 3rd straight telecast.  For the 3rd week in a row, ABC’s freshman news program outdelivered its mid-week CBS freshman 10 o’clock news competition on Tuesday (Brooklyn DA), leading by its biggest margins yet with Adults 18-49 (+83%) and Adults 25-54 (+67%).  ABC’s The Lookout also drew 8% more viewers than CBS’ Brooklyn DA.

Thursday: Shooting to the top Thursday night with coverage of the NBA Finals Game 4 (Miami-San Antonio), ABC outdrew its nearest primetime competition by 5.5 million viewers (CBS) and in Adults 18-49 beat the other networks combined by 33%. ABC has dominated all 4 nights of the 2013 NBA Finals with Adults 18-49.  Building over the prior week’s Game 1 coverage (+17%), the Net scored its top-rated Thursday in almost 1 year among young adults – since 6/21/12.  Airing around the NBA Finals in various time periods across the country, ABC’s JKL Game Night 4 was up from the comparable telecast last year by 14% in viewers and held even with young adults to mark its 2nd-most-watched Game Night 4 telecast to date.  Featuring the Miami Heat at the San Antonio Spurs, ABC’s NBA Finals Game 4 (9:00-11:49pm ET) stood as Thursday’s #1 TV program in Total Viewers and in each of the key Adult demographics. It was the 4th consecutive broadcast for the 2013 NBA Finals to rank as the top television program of the evening. Miami beat out San Antonio 109-93 to tie the best-of-seven series 2-2. Game 4 put up the best numbers yet for this year’s series across all key Adults.  In addition, the contest posted the 2nd-highest Game 4 ratings for the NBA Finals since 2004 among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.

Friday: In the 8pm hour, ABC’s repeat Shark Tank topped its network rivals in Adults 18-49, beating the first hour of an original telecast of NBC’s Dateline by 10% and dominating its encore unscripted competition on CBS (Undercover Boss) by 22%. In the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s What Would You Do? was the #1 program on the major networks in the key Adult 25-54 news demo and Adults 18-49. What Would You Do? outdelivered NBC’s competing newsmagazine (Dateline) by 9% in Adults 18-49. What Would You Do? grew week to week by 7% in Adults 25-54 to match a season high. ABC’s 20/20 stood as Friday’s #1 newsmagazine in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49, leading NBC’s Dateline (8-10pm) and Rock Center with Brian Williams (10-11pm). From 10-11pm, 20/20 ranked #1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49, finishing as the #1 series in the hour in the key news demo for the 7th straight week. Dominating NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams by its largest margins this summer in the key Adult demos, 20/20 defeated the NBC newsmagazine by 46% in Adults 25-54 and by 56% in Adults 18-49. 20/20 also drew 7% more viewers than Rock Center in the 10 o’clock hour. Soaring to its highest numbers yet this summer, 20/20 was up over the prior week by 27% in Adults 25-54 and by 27% in Adults 18-49 to deliver its best performance for a summertime telecast in more than 1 year – since 6/1/12 and 6/8/12, respectively. 20/20 also grew its overall audience by 9% week to week.

Sunday: With Sunday’s coverage of the 2013 NBA Finals Game 5 (Miami-San Antonio), ABC beat the other networks combined delivery in primetime (CBS, NBC and Fox) by 7% in Total Viewers and by 61% Adults 18-49.  In fact it was the ABC’s 2nd straight Sunday to beat its combined competition with NBA Finals coverage among young adults. Building week to week in viewers (+20%) and young adults (+6%), ABC earned its most-watched non-Oscar Sunday in 2 years – since 06/12/11.  Airing around the NBA Finals in various time periods across the country, the first five telecasts of the 2013 Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night specials are up over last year’s average by 10% in Total Viewers, generating the annual program’s 2nd-biggest audience ever. Featuring the Miami Heat at the San Antonio Spurs, ABC’s 2013 NBA Finals Game 5 (8-11pm) was Sunday’s dominant #1 TV program in Total Viewers and across each of the key Adult demographics.  It was the 5th consecutive broadcast for the 2013 NBA Finals to finish as the #1 TV program of the night. San Antonio defeated Miami 114-104 to lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. Game 5 was the most-watched yet for the 2013 NBA Finals.
