ABC comes to tentative terms with journalists

The Writers Guild of America East and Walt Disney Company’s ABC say they have a tentative agreement on a new contract. It has to be approved by the WGAE Council and earn ratification from membership. It affects both television and radio employees.

According to UPI, some 250 writers, editors, researchers and other news department employees are covered under the deal.

WGAE’s Lowell Peterson “The tentative agreement achieves our goals of protecting our members’ economic interests and ensuring that the guild and its members remain central to the company’s operation as the broadcast news business is transformed in coming years. Given the depressed state of the international economy in general and the difficulties in broadcast news in particular, we are pleased this contract gives our members a wage increase and provides job protections.”
