ABC daytime chief in hot water over soaps?

Brian Frons (pictured), President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group, is in hot water over the cancellation of “One Life to Live” and “All My Children,” sources told The NY Post.

Fans and advertisers have been complaining about the decision, and we reported that Hoover is pulling all of its ads on ABC over the cancellations.

The Post story also noted that other advertisers like Hershey’s and L’Oreal are getting heat from consumers to pull ads: “Insiders are pointing at Frons, with whispers he may be in his final days. And Kelly Ripa and ‘The View’ hosts have been told to cease their death-of-the-soaps talk.”

However, an ABC rep disagreed, saying Frons “is not leaving the network…There has been no directive to the ladies of ‘The View’ or Kelly Ripa.”

RBR-TVBR observation: Consumers flex their collective muscle: Hoover’s Facebook page is where the company decided to announce to the world its decision to pull the ads. It has some 14,500 likes now and the wall is flooded with support for the move. This company is probably selling more vacuums with this effort than any ad campaign could conjure up!

Someone is going to pick these two soaps up, just watch and see.
