Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
Growing over the previous Tuesday in viewers and young adults for the 3rd straight week, ABC registered its strongest performance on the night in Total Viewers (10.7 million) and Adults 18-49 number (2.6/7) on the night since premiere Tuesday (9/22/09).

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
ABC’s special annual telecast of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” attracted 8.9 million viewers and a 2.7 rating, 7 share in Adults 18-49, delivering the Net’s best numbers in the 8 o’clock hour in 5 weeks – since 9/22/09.  The animated Halloween special won its hour among Kids 2-11, beating the combined performances of CBS, NBC and Fox by 5% (4.1/13 vs. 3.9/12).  Further, the PEANUTS holiday classic posted the Net’s highest Kids 2-11 rating in the time period in over 10 months – since 12/16/08.

“Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Building on its lead-in in viewers and young adults, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars the Results” drew 14.7 million viewers and a 2.9 rating 7 share, leading Tuesday’s 9 o’clock hour in Total Viewers. “DWTS the Results” outperformed the second hour of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” for the 3rd consecutive telecast in both Total Viewers (+8.5 million – 14.7 million vs. 6.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+21% – 2.9/7 vs. 2.4/6).  In a Dance-Off double elimination, actor, producer, director, Melissa Joan Hart and professional snowboarder, Louis Vito, were the eighth and ninth dancers, respectively, to be eliminated from the competition this season.

“the forgotten” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Drawing its largest audience since its series premiere (9/22/09), ABC’s “the forgotten” topped NBC’s “Jay Leno” for the 3rd week running in both Total Viewers (+2.7 million – 8.6 million vs. 5.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% – 2.0/5 vs. 1.8/5).

On average, “the forgotten” is improving the time period year to year for ABC, growing its hour over the same nights last year in both Total Viewers (8.5 million vs. 8.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 2.1/6).

“the forgotten” is generating substantial increases over its first-reported numbers through DVR playback, picking up an average 1.1 million viewers and an additional 4-tenths of an Adult 18-49 rating point (+14%) from the initially reported Live + Same Day Numbers to the Live + 7 Day DVR finals.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 33% currently, from 28% at the same point in 2008.  More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
