In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (tie), ABC hit its top numbers on the night since season-premiere Thursday 8 weeks ago (on 9/23/10).

“Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
ABC’s special annual rebroadcast of “Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” produced season-highs for the Net in the 8 o’clock hour among viewers (7.4 million) and young adults (2.2/6-tie), drawing its top non-sports in-season results in the hour in 1 year – since 11/19/09.

“Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” was up year to year by nearly 1.0 million viewers and by 10% in Adults 18-49 (6.5 million and 2.0/6 on 11/26/09).

“Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” won Thursday’s 9 o’clock hour in Adults 18-49 (4.3/11), registering as the No. 1 series in the time period for the 9th consecutive week.  In its time period, “Grey’s” outperformed second-place NBC’s comedies (“The Office”/”Outsourced”) by +34% (3.2/8), third-place CBS’ “CSI” by +39% (3.1/8) and fourth-place Fox’s “Fringe” by +126% (1.9/5).  In addition, “Grey’s” finished as the Thursday’s No. 1 TV show in the key young adult sales demo (tie).

At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Private Practice” ran neck-and-neck for the lead in Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 3.0/9) and finished No. 1 in its time-slot in Adults 18-34 (2.5/8) for the 3rd week in a row, beating out CBS’ “The Mentalist” by 25% (2.0/6).  The ABC drama also won the hour across all key Women demographics (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 38% currently, from 34% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
