ABC tops Wed. DNC coverage

ABCMonday: Building its overall audience for the 2nd straight week and rising 8% week to week in Adults 18-49, the season’s penultimate episode of ABC’s Bachelor Pad scored best-since-premiere numbers in viewers and young adults – since 7/23/12.   Head to head from 8-10pm, ABC’s Bachelor Pad dominated NBC’s 2-hour finale of Stars Earn Stripes by 55% in Total Viewers and by 56% in Adults 18-49.  In the 9 o’clock hour, Bachelor Pad outdrew the season finale of Fox’s Hotel Hell in Total Viewers.


Wednesday: Surging over its lead-in at 10pm, ABC News’ Your Voice, Your Vote – 2012 Democratic National Convention ranked as the #1 coverage on Wednesday night in Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.   ABC’s DNC coverage was up by double-digit percentages from the comparable night 4 years ago (8/27/08), jumping by 33% in Total Viewers, by 22% in Adults 18-49 and by 36% in Adults 25-54.  ABC News’ Your Voice, Your Vote – 2012 Democratic National Convention shot up over the previous night across the board:  Total Viewers (+41%), Adults 18-49 (+38%) and Adults 25-54 (+50%).

Thursday: During the 8 o’clock hour, ABC’s Wipeout grew week to week by 20% in Total Viewers and by 27% in Adults 18-49. Building audience for ABC at 9pm against stiff competition from CBS’ Big Brother 14, MTV’s 2012 VMAs and DNC coverage, the 3rd season finale of Rookie Blue shot up week to week by 34% in Total Viewers and by 33% in Adults 18-49.  In addition, the season closer of the ABC drama built audience throughout its telecast, picking up 4% in viewers from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.  In viewers and young adults, Rookie Blue closed out its season with 6-week highs – since 7/26/12.  Compared to the first hour of its year-ago finale in the 9-11pm time period, Rookie Blue was up in both Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+20%). ABC News Your Voice, Your Vote – 2012 Democratic National Convention beat CBS News’ coverage of the DNC during the 10pm hour by 21% in Total Viewers, by 8% in Adults 25-54 and by 11% in Adults 18-49.

Friday: Driven by big turnouts for two hours of 20/20, ABC stood as the most-watched television network on Friday evening for the 2nd week in a row, outperforming CBS by 19%, NBC by 89% and Fox by 155%. The Net claimed the Top 2 programs in Total Viewers on Friday night, with 20/20-FRIDAY and 20/20. ABC delivered its largest audience on the night in more than 2 months – since 7/6/12. ABC’s 20/20-FRIDAY ranked as Friday’s most-watched TV program overall. The ABC newsmagazine outdrew repeat dramas in the 9 o’clock hour on CBS by 1.4 million viewers (CSI: NY), NBC by 3.7 million viewers (Grimm) and Fox by 3.3 million viewers (Bones). Soaring over the prior week by 15% in Total Viewers, 20/20-FRIDAY hit a 9-week high – since 7/6/12. ABC’s rebroadcast 20/20 registered as Friday’s 2nd-most-watched program, behind only its 20/20-FRIDAY lead-in. From 10-11pm, ABC’s 20/20 finished #1 in Total Viewers, beating NBC’s original Dateline by double-digit margins in Total Viewers (+26%), Adults 25-54 (+31%) and Adults 18-49 (+44%). 20/20 jumped week to week by 31% in Adults 25-54 and by 44% in Adults 18-49, matching its best ratings in the time slot since early June – since 6/8/12.
