ABC wins the week in Late-Night


With its late-night lineup of Jimmy Kimmel Live at 11:35pm and Nightline at 12:35am during the week of June 10, 2013, ABC grew for the 2nd straight week in both Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 18-49 (+25%), delivering its strongest week in late-night in almost 8 months among young adults– since w/o 10/29/12. ABC finished as the week’s most-watched network in late-night, outdrawing NBC, while increasing its lead over CBS to 18% (versus 4% the prior week). ABC ranked as the #1 network in late-night in Adults 18-49, holding solid double-digit advantages over NBC (+20%) and CBS (+70%).

During the week of June 10, 2013, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live shot up over the prior week by 28% among Adults 18-49 to deliver its best performance yet in its new 11:35pm time slot. In fact, this week was JKL’s strongest week in nearly 10 years in the key young adult demo – since w/o 11/24/03. JKL grew over the year-ago week (which also consisted of 2 original and 3 repeat telecasts) by 15% among Adults 18-49, marking its 23rd straight week of year-over-year growth. Tuesday’s telecast of JKL (on 6/11/13), which featured guests Lil Wayne, Chris Messina and Jimmy Eat World, was a series high for a regular telecast among Adults 18-49. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live was the week’s #1 talk show in late-night in Adults 18-34, beating runner-up NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno by 16%. JKL claimed the week’s top 2 telecasts in late-night in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 with its Tuesday and Thursday broadcasts. Despite airing only 2 original telecasts during the week (on Tuesday and Thursday), ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live scored its largest advantages ever over CBS’ The Late Show with David Letterman, beating the CBS program with 4 original telecasts by 58% in Adults 18-49 and by 100% in Adults 18-34.

ABC News’ Nightline ranked #1 in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 for the week of June 10, 2013. Nightline posted double-digit increases week to week across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+19%), Adults 25-54 (+22%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%). In fact, the ABC late-night program delivered its strongest week ever in Adults 18-49 in its new time slot. On Thursday (6/13/13), Nightline scored its best-ever Adults 18-49 telecast since moving to its new time period (since 1/8/13) and 2nd-best ever in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. For the week, Nightline outdelivered CBS’ The Late Late Show in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+443,000), Adults 25-54 (+211,000) and Adults 18-49 (+200,000). In fact, Nightline led The Late Late Show by its largest advantages ever in both key adult demos.
