“ABC World News” narrows weekly viewing gap

ABCFor the week of April 30, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.03 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.85 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.


For the 2nd week in a row, “World News” decreased its week-to-week Total Viewing gap (-14% – 761,000 vs. 885,000) with “NBC Nightly News” — posting its smallest Total Viewer margin with “Nightly News” in 4 months – since w/o 12/26/11.

Compared to the year-ago week, “World News” slashed its gaps with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits among both Total Viewers (-29% – 761,000 vs. 1.07 million) and Adults 25-54 (-61% – 297,000 vs. 760,000).  Year-to-year, “World News” has decreased the demo gap with “Nightly News” by double-digits for the 9th week in a row and in 10 of the last 11 weeks.

Season-to-date, “World News” has narrowed the gaps with “NBC Nightly News” among both Total Viewers (-1%) and Adults 25-54 (-24%), posting its smallest Total Viewer (1.08 million) and news demo margins (362,000) with the NBC program in 3 years – since the 2008-09 season.

“World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.17 million Total Viewers and by 167,000 Adults 25-54.
