"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" solid No. 2 against NBC

For the week of July 12th, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 6.64 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/6 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  Year to Year, “World News” increased its Total Viewing audience by 2% and its demo audience by 2%.


Compared to the same period last year, “World News” increased its advantage over “CBS Evening News” among Total Viewers by 10%. “World News” closed the gap among Adults 25-54 with “NBC Nightly News” by 4% year-to-year.

Note: David Muir anchored “World News” on Friday.  Week to week, the 6:30 – 7:00 pm Households Using Television (HUT) and People Using Television (PUT) level for Total Viewers was down 2% and the People Using Television levels for Adults 25-54 were down 4%.

Last week “World News” continued to report on the crisis in the Gulf and on the implications it has for the people in the region. Diane Sawyer anchored the broadcast from Buras, LA on Monday and spoke to Adm. Thad Allen (Ret.) about the new containment cap. On Tuesday Sawyer anchored from Lafitte, LA, where she conducted her second town hall meeting. David Muir continued reporting “World News Returns to Haiti.”
