ABC's Late-Night line-up solid in key adults 18-49


With a Season-Best Performance, ABC Turns in its Strongest Adult 18-49 and Adult 25-54 Numbers in Over 7 Months.

Posting Year-to-Year Gains For the 4th Time in the Last 5 weeks, “Nightline” is No. 1 Among Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 for the Week.

“Nightline” is No. 1 Season to Date AmongAdults 25-54 and Total Viewers for First Time Since 1993.

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Posts its Strongest Number in Over 2 Months in Total Viewers, Marking the Show’s 2nd-Largest Audience This Season.

Tuesday’s Airing Stands as “JKL’s” Most-Watched Telecast Among Adults 18-49 in Almost 9 Months.

“JKL” Tops CBS’ “Ferguson” in Adults 18-49 for the 6th Week in a Row.

ABC Late-Night (Monday – Friday)
During the week of January 31, 2011, including the first two nights of the February 2011 Sweep, ABC Late-Night saw increases over the previous week of 22% in Total Viewers (2.70 million vs. 2.21 million), 26% in Adults 18-49 (1.01 million vs. 803,000) and 27% in Adults 25-54 (1.28 million vs. 1.01 million). Hitting a season best, ABC posted its best Adult 18-49 and Adult 25-54 numbers in late night in more than 7 months – since w/o 6/14/10 and 5/24/10, respectively. In addition, ABC attracted its 2nd-largest overall audience in late night this season.

Additionally, ABC Late-Night was up over the same week last year (w/o 2/1/10) by 8% in Total Viewers (2.70 million vs. 2.50 million), 2% in Adults 18-49 (1.01 million vs. 986,000) and 8% in Adults 25-54 (1.28 million vs. 1.18 million), marking year-to-year increases for the 4th time in the last 5 weeks.

For the 3rd time in the last 5 weeks, ABC ranked No. 1 among Adults 18-49 in late night versus CBS and NBC. In addition, ABC ran in a virtual tie for No. 1 with CBS in Total Viewers (2.70 million vs. 2.77 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.28 million vs. 1.32 million).

“Nightline” (Monday – Friday)
ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked as the No. 1 program in late night in Total Viewers (4.43 million), Adults 25-54 (1.94 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.48 million). In fact, the ABC program scored its second-strongest performance of the season across all three Nielsen measures.

For the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, “Nightline” improved year to year in Total Viewers (+10%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

Season to date, “Nightline” ranks in first place among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.  This is the first time “Nightline” that has been in first place at this point in the season since at least the 1993-94 season, when “Letterman” began on CBS. In addition, “Nightline” is up by +3% in Adults 25-54 season to date compared to the same point last year.

“Nightline” topped NBC’s “The Tonight Show” by its largest margins in 4 weeks (since w/o 1/3/11) in Total Viewers (160,000), Adults 25-54 (150,000) and Adults 18-49 (70,000).

Tuesday’s airing (2/1/11) of “Nightline” drew the ABC program’s second-strongest telecast of the season in Adults 25-54 (2.22 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.75 million).

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (Monday – Friday)

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” saw impressive week-to-week increases in both Total Viewers (+17% — 1.85 million vs. 1.58 million) and Adults 18-49 (+21% — 782,000 vs. 645,000), posting the show’s strongest performance in more than 2 months – since w/o 11/22/10. In fact, “JKL” attracted the show’s 2nd-largest audience of the season and drew its 3rd-highest Adult 18-49 audience since premiere week (w/o 9/20/10).

Excluding the NBA Finals-led broadcasts in June, “JKL’s” Tuesday telecast (2/1/11), which featured guests Jamie Foxx and Sarah Shahi, drew the ABC late-night program’s largest audience (2.18 million) on any night in more than 2 months and highest Adult 18-49 number (1.03 million) in nearly 9 months – since 11/23/10 and 5/25/10, respectively. In addition, “JKL’s” Tuesday airing posted the show’s best Adults 18-49 number on the evening since May (since 5/25/10). On Tuesday, “JKL” drew 43% more Adult 18-49 viewers than NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (718,000) and 29% more than CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (799,000).

For the week of January 31, ABC’s “JKL” beat CBS’ “Ferguson” by 3% in Total Viewers (1.85 million vs. 1.79 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (782,000 vs. 727,000), besting the CBS late-night program in the key young adult demo for the 6th consecutive week.
