During the 8 o’clock hour against NBC’s The Voice and CBS’ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, ABC’s special Christmas-themed Shark Tank beat out Fox’s comedies by wide margins (Raising Hope/Ben & Kate), leading by 3.7 million viewers and by 31% in Adults 18-49. Despite facing The Voice in the hour, ABC’s Shark Tank attracted its 2nd-largest audience.
Returning to the 9pm half-hour after the prior week’s preemption, ABC’s Happy Endings jumped 18% in Adults 18-49 and 22% in Adults 18-34 over its 2-week-ago telecast. In fact the ABC comedy equaled its best Adult 18-49 rating since its season premiere – since 10/23/12.
In the 9:30pm half-hour, ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 spiked over its most-recent airing by 33% in Adults 18-49 and by 100% in Adults 18-34, marking best-since-premiere numbers on both counts – since 10/23/12.
Building its overall audience (+5%) for its 2nd straight airing in Tuesday’s 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s Private Practice generated its most-watched telecast in 6 weeks – since 10/23/12.
Fox Tuesday Airing originals of its Tuesday comedies, FOX ranked third last night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.
At 8pm, RAISING HOPE (1.4/4) was down -22% from last week (1.8/5) followed by BEN AND KATE (1.1/3), down -21% from last week (1.4/4).
NEW GIRL posted a 2.0/5 at 9pm, down -13% from last week in Adults 18-49 (2.3/6) but was even in Total Viewers (4.1 Mil) and up +10% in Teens (1.1/4 vs. 1.0/4). NEW GIRL was the highest rated comedy of the night in Adults 18-34 (2.2/7).
THE MINDY PROJECT closed the night with a 1.3/3, down -13% from last week in Adults 18-49, but won its half hour in Adults 18-34.
Competition
On ABC, a special Tuesday telecast of Shark Tank posted a 1.7/5, down -11% from its most recent original (1.9/6 on 11/16/12). Happy Endings (1.3/3, up +18%) and Don’t Trust The B In Apt 23 (1.2/3, up +33%) were up from their most recent episodes, which were all-time series lows, while Private Practice (1.2/3) was down -8% from its last Tuesday original (1.3/4 on 11/20/12).
CBS’ annual special Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer posted a 2.9/8 at 8pm, down -28% from its performance last year (4.0/11 on 11/29/11). Following a repeat NCIS at 9pm (2.0/5), the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show delivered a 3.5/10, down -24% from the show last year (4.6/12 on 11/29/11).
NBC’s The Voice (3.4/10) was down -11% from last week’s results show (3.8/11). Go On (2.5/7) and The New Normal (1.7/4) were flat week-to-week (vs. 2.5/6 and 1.7/4), while Parenthood (1.7/5) fell -6% from last week (1.8/5).
