A Karlsruhe, Germany-based supplier of next-gen “smart set-top box” platforms for pay-TV, IPTV, and OTT operators now has a stateside distributor, giving it wider access to the robust North American marketplace.

Thanks to a newly forged deal, ABOX42 now has a distribution agreement with CTIconnect.

This means CTIconnect will distribute ABOX42’s M30 and M35 smart home enabled STBs supporting next-generation features such as 4K UHD TV, H.265 encoding, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and the latest content security from Verimatrix.

CTIconnect works largely with rural, local and regional telecommunications providers across the U.S. and Canada.

“The competitive landscape for broadband providers is changing in North America, where IPTV solutions are no longer the preferred domain of Tier 1 providers,” said Daniel White, managing director of operations for CTIconnect. “Many of our customers are looking for a carrier-grade, cost-effective STB to launch their own IPTV service and propose a true triple-play offering that rivals those of much larger providers. We have been impressed with the superior engineering of the ABOX42 platform, which is available at an attractive price-to-performance ratio, and look forward to showcasing it to our customers.”

The ABOX42 solution consists of a cross-platform stack, compatibility with modern TV middleware solutions, and a SDK supporting all IPTV features for live TV, video on demand, catch-up TV, local and cloud PVR.

The STB also includes necessary security software and lifecycle management capabilities. ABOX42 offers several varieties of smart set-top-boxes, using Broadcom SoC and other essential technologies for the U.S. market.

“We thoroughly assessed all of the potential partners in North America, and discovered that CTIconnect offers the most experience in working with operators and ISPs, along with the same ambition we have to disrupt the North American IPTV market,” said Oliver Soellner, member of the board at ABOX42.

CTIconnect parent Convergence Technologies Inc. was founded in 1995, and is also the parent company of MitoTec, CTIconnect, and IPpay.
