Actors getting set for first big post-merger negotiation

SAG - AFTRA / One UnionThe current contract between production and talent for commercial work is set to expire 5/31/13. Talks on a new contract begin in January, and it will be the first major contract session for SAG/AFTRA since the two organizations memorialized in its name came together.


According to a story in The Wrap, the organization’s board has negotiation teams in place to work on plans and strategies on the wages and working conditions elements of the new agreement.

Proposals will be reviewed in mid-November.

According to The Wrap, industry insiders will be watching the negotiations with interest in the attempt to determine how much negotiating power was added to the labor side of the production business by the merger of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
