Advocacy group targets both parties

0

The Club for Growth does not want the Senate to approve a bill that would combat greenhouse gas emissions, and is targeting senators in both parties with $250K worth of radio and television advertising in an attempt to shoot down legislation from Joe Liberman (I-CT)/John Warner (R-VA) currently scheduled for floor debate. On the hit list are Elizabeth Dole R-NC), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Robert Byrd (D-WV), Jay Rockefeller(D-WV), Max Baucus (D-MT) and Jon Tester (D-MT). Dole, Alexander, Rockefeller and Baucus are all up for re-election.

RBR/TVBR observation: This is exactly the sort of issue advertising that would seemingly be cool with the Supreme Court right up to Election Day, per the Wisconsin Right to Life ruling. As long as the Club does not advocate for the election or defeat of a candidate, they seemingly are allowed to call attention to them as long as they are trying to influence their actions on Capitol Hill. Watch for lots more of this type of ad flight this year.
