U.S. CongressThe Senate Communications Subcommittee, under the gavel of Mark Pryor (D-AR), is scheduled to take a look at the state of the video marketplace next week, and will be taking testimony from a very impressive panel.

The session is scheduled for Tuesday 5/14/13 at 10:30AM eastern.

Broadcast, cable and satellite interests are represented, along with one advocate for the public interest. Here’s the list – get ready for some familiar names:

* The Honorable Gordon H. Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Association of Broadcasters

* The Honorable Michael K. Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Cable & Telecommunications Association

* Mr. R. Stanton Dodge, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, DISH Network

* Mr. John Bergmayer, Senior Staff Attorney, Public Knowledge

RBR-TVBR observation: To be honest, we aren’t even sure why the even have this subcommittee. That’s because every single member of the parent Commerce Committee is on it with the exception of Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Ranking Member John Thune (R-SD). And we wouldn’t be at all surprised it they show up for the hearing.

For some time, the Senate Commerce Committee operated without a Communications Subcommittee – communications issues were simply handled by the full committee. And for all intents and purposes, that is still pretty much the way it is now.
