The transfer of WELE-AM to Bethune-Cookman University for no consideration looks cut and dried, but the back story is anything but. And the deal also has an LPFM angle.
The basic outline of the deal has it going from F. Douglas Wilhite’s Wings Communications to B-CU, headed by Edison O. Jackman, as a donation.
There is some question as to whether the deal would survive FCC scrutiny due to character concerns raised about Wilhite. The parties went included testimony with the application in favor of allowing the transfer to proceed.
