'American Idol' just crushed all Wednesday night

FOX won the night in Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos and outperformed its nearest competitor for the night by +107% in Adults 18-49 (5.8 vs. 2.8 for CBS) and +72% in Total Viewers (18.7 vs. CBS’ 10.9 Mil.).


AMERICAN IDOL delivered a 6.9/20 among Adults 18-49 and was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos, outperforming the next highest rated program by +64% in Adults 18-49 (6.9 vs. Modern Family’s 4.2) and +71% in Total Viewers (22.4 vs. Criminal Minds’ 13.1 Mil.)

Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL grew +1% vs. the comparable telecast last year in Adults 18-49 (6.9/20 vs. 6.8/18, Top 4 on 5/11/10) and +17% in Total Viewers (22.4 vs. 19.2 Mil.)  Based on recent performance AMERICAN IDOL will go up in the finals.

AMERICAN IDOL was up +5% from last Wednesday’s performance in Adults 18-49 (6.9 vs. 6.6) and +6% in Total Viewers (22.4 vs. 21.1 Mil.)  Again, based on recent performance AMERICAN IDOL will go up in the finals.

So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings AMERICAN IDOL retains 95% of last year’s same telecasts in A18-49 (8.4/23 vs. 8.8/23) and is up +2% in Total Viewers (24.8 vs. 24.2 Mil.)

In the 8-9:30p time period AMERICAN IDOL outperformed its nearest competitor by +130% in Adults 18-49 (6.9 vs. 3.0 for CBS) and +104% in Total Viewers (22.4 vs. 11.0 Mil for CBS.) AMERICAN IDOL showed significant growth throughout the night gaining in its last half hour versus its first by +28% in A18-49 (7.7 vs. 6.0) and +27% in Total Viewers (25.0 vs. 19.7 Mil).

BREAKING IN posted a 2.4/6 among Adults 18-49, same as last week.  BREAKING IN ranked #2 in the 9:30p half hour among Adults 18-49 (tie) and #1 in Teens.

Competition
On ABC, The Middle (2.1/7), Better With You (1.9/6), Modern Family (4.2/11) and Cougar Town (2.4/6) were all in line with their recent performances. Back-to-back episodes of new comedy Happy Endings aired at 10p (1.7/4, tied time period low) and 1030p (1.4/4, tied lowest rating to date).

On CBS, the final Wednesday telecast of Survivor: Redemption Island posted a 3.0/9 at 8p, concluding the lowest rated Survivor cycle in the show’s 22 season history. Criminal Minds (3.3/9) and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.1/6, tied series low) finished the night.

Following an original Minute to Win It (0.9/3) at 8p and a repeat Minute to Win It at 9p (1.1/3), NBC’s Law & Order: SVU (2.4/6) was on par with its prior original average.
