'American Idol' ratings touch down but still winner Thursday

Airing a one-hour AMERICAN IDOL and an original BONES, FOX won its fifth consecutive in-season Thursday night for the first time ever among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.
                              
FOX won the night across all key demos and outperformed the next highest rated net for the night by +80% in A18-49 (5.4 vs. CBS’ 3.0) and +21% in Total Viewers (15.9 vs. CBS’ 13.1 Mil.)   


AMERICAN IDOL:  Posted a 7.5/22, up +3% from last Thursday and knocked its competitors to season lows.

IDOL retained 100% of last week’s Total Viewers (21.9 million).   

IDOL beat the combined competition (ABC, CBS and NBC) by +12% in the 8-9pm hour (7.5 vs. 6.7).

AMERICAN IDOL was the highest rated program of the night and beat the next highest rated programs in A18-49 (Big Bang Theory and Grey’s Anatomy) by +103% and in Total Viewers (The Mentalist) by +47%

IDOL outperformed the next highest rated net in the 8p hour by +134% in A18-49 (7.5 vs. CBS’ 3.2) and +97% in Total Viewers (21.9 vs. 11.1 Mil.)                            

BONES: Posted a 3.3/9, up +3% and ranked second in the hour among Adults 18-49.
So far in the 9p hour, BONES is outperforming its prior season average with originals by +36% in A18-49 (3.4/9 vs. 2.5/8) and +13% in Total Viewers (10.5 vs. 9.3 Mil.)

Competition

ABC’s Winter Wipeout delivered a season-low 1.9/6 at 8p, dropping -14% from last week. At 9 and 10p, Grey’s Anatomy (3.7/10, down -5%) and Private Practice (2.4/7, down -8%) posted season lows. Season to date, Grey’s Anatomy (4.3/12) and Private Practice (2.9/8) are down -17% and -19% versus their respective original performances last year (5.2/13 and 3.6/10).

At 8p, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory (3.7/11) fell -5% to its lowest rating in nearly two years (3.7/11 on Mon 5/11/09). The season finale of $#*! My Dad Says followed with a 2.6/8 at 830p, down -4% from last week. CSI (2.9/8, up +3%) and The Mentalist (3.0/9, up +4%) finished the night in line with their prior averages.

Last night NBC delivered its worst performance ever with a regular lineup of in-season Thursday originals (2.0/6). Community (1.8/5, flat), Perfect Couples (1.4/4, down -7%), The Office (3.3/9, down -6%), Parks & Recreation (2.3/6, -8%), 30 Rock (2.0/6, -13%), and Outsourced (1.5/4, -12%) all posted their lowest original ratings of the season (tie for Community and Perfect Couples, excluding that show’s series preview on Monday 12/20/10). Through five weeks, NBC’s all-comedy Thursday has yet to show a week-to-week gain (2.8 > 26 > 2.3 > 2.2 > 2.0).
