'American Idol' takes Fox to Thursday win

The AMERICAN IDOL Top 8 Results show and an original BONES led FOX to win last night across all key demos and outperform the next highest rated network for the night by +133% in Adults 18-49 (4.9 vs. NBC’s 2.1) and +94% in Total Viewers (16.5 vs. CBS’ 8.5 Mil.)


AMERICAN IDOL: 6.1/19, the exact same rating it drew in the prelims last Thursday before bumping up a few tenths in the finals (which we expect will happen in the finals later today as well)

Last night’s IDOL retained 98% of last Thursday’s Total Viewers (21.0 vs. 21.5 Mil).
AMERICAN IDOL outperformed the combined 4-net competition in the 8p hour by +2% among Adults 18-49 (6.1 vs. 6.0) and +11% in Total Viewers (21.0 vs. 19.0 Mil.) 
Versus the comparable telecast last year (Top 9 Results Double Elimination on 4/14/10), IDOL retained 90% of Adults 18-49 (6.1 vs. 6.8) and retained 100% of Total Viewers (21.0 vs. 21.1 Mil.)

So far this season with, AMERICAN IDOL is retaining 93% of the Adults 18-49 audience (8.5/23 vs. 9.1/23) and is now up +1% in Total Viewers (25.0 vs. 24.8 Mil.) compared to the same period last season.

BONES: 3.7/10, up +16% from last week – its highest rating in over two months (since 1/27/11).
BONES won the 9p hour among A18-49, Total Viewers, Teens and Adults 25-54 and was the second highest rated program of the night in Total Viewers (behind only AMERICAN IDOL).

Competition
ABC’s Wipeout (1.9/6, flat) matched its original season low at 8p, dropping -24% from its prior average (2.5/7). Repeats of Grey’s Anatomy (1.3/3) and Private Practice (0.8/2) followed at 9p and 10p.

CBS aired repeats of The Big Bang Theory (1.8/6), Rules of Engagement (1.3/4), CSI (1.4/4) and The Mentalist (1.9/5).
 
Following a series low performance for Community (1.4/5, down -22% vs. 3/24/11), NBC’s The Paul Reiser Show (1.1/3) delivered the network’s lowest rating ever for an in-season comedy premiere. The series debut was down -48% from Perfect Couples’ time period premiere in January (2.1/6 on 1/20/2011). From 9-11p, The Office (3.9/11) featuring Will Ferrell was up +15% from its last original, while Parks and Recreation (2.6/7, up +8%), 30 Rock (2.2/6, up +16%) and Outsourced (1.7/5, up +21) were all on par with their recent performances.
