AMW hits 1000th capture milestone

FOX’s America’s Most Wanted, currently in its 21st season, has achieved a milestone: 1,000 fugitives have been captured as a direct result of the partnership between AMW, viewers and law enforcement. John Walsh, host of the series, will mark the milestone with a special episode Saturday, May 17. The show will originate from Times Square in New York City and will highlight some of the greatest captures in AMW history. And, of course, the show will include information about current fugitives viewers can help law enforcement track down.

Capture 1,000 came after AMW received a tip that Dwight Smith, an accused killer from New York, was hiding out in Richmond, VA. The U.S. Marshals Service and the NYPD jumped on the tip, and Smith was arrested without incident just hours after AMW broadcast his profile on April 19.
AMW premiered in February 1988 on FOX.
