Another Tribune Company exit

Chicago Tribune media columnist Phil Rosenthal reports that Don Meek, who had been Executive Vice President of Tribune Digital since November, is leaving the company. The division is being rolled into Tribune Technology, under Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Steve Gable.

The company’s four-member executive council, which has run the company since Randy Michaels was ousted as CEO in October, sent employees a note that the reorganization was taking place “because it is important to create single ownership and accountability over our short-term digital priorities and long-term digital strategy, including new product development, innovation, and resource allocation. The integration of our digital and technology operations will also enable more collaboration and better communication.”

Meek had been Chief Revenue Officer for Tribune Company’s publishing and interactive divisions prior to heading Tribune Digital, having come to headquarters from the company’s Los Angeles Times. But he also had a non-newspaper background at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Fox Sports Net and the CBS O&Os in Los Angeles.

RBR-TVBR observation: Interesting to note that this is not a case of another Randy Michaels protégé being shown the door. Rather, the guy getting more responsibilities, Steve Gable, is a former Clear Channel Radio VP of Technology who was brought to Tribune Company by Michaels.
