That’s according to DailyTech: Apple is readying a launch of TV displays powered by iOS– Apple’s mobile operating system. iOS was originally developed for the iPhone and has been extended to support the iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV.

According to a source Apple plans to “blow Netflix and all those other guys away” by bundling Apple TV and iTunes inside physical television sets. According to the source Apple is teaming up with a major supplier to provide the physical televisions, which will be rebranded as Apple television sets. The launch date is expected between Fall of this year and early next year. The new iOS-driven TVs are expected to have third-party apps as well.

RBR-TVBR observation: The idea of Apple entering the bundled TV display biz  has been tossed around for a while now. It would save consumers the extra steps of acquiring and hooking up an Apple TV box to their own TV set. However, Sony’s Google-powered Internet TV, which uses the company’s Google TV version of its Android OS has faced poor sales. It may take a company like Apple to jump-start the market segment for iPTVs.
