Azteca America is consolidating its national network newscast into a “binational newscast” originating from Azteca 7 and the parent company’s FIA newsgathering team in Mexico City. For now, Azteca America has suspended local news on KAZA-TV Los Angeles. Azteca America is focusing on extended sports coverage as one way to build viewership in the US.

Speaking of the decision to take its network newscast from its sister network in Mexico, Adrian Steckel, CEO of Azteca America, said, “The move is an efficient way to continue offering the quality information that our audiences expect from us."

Azteca America said it continues to explore opportunities with several key partners to further bolster overall news coverage and present cost-effective local news in Los Angeles. Such a partnership would restore local news to KAZA, “which has been suspended for the moment.”

The programming changes at Azteca America are described as part of efforts that include extended sports coverage, including exclusive boxing and UFC mixed martial arts events to support the network’s unmatched Mexican soccer broadcasts. The network notes that it also features new entertainment shows such as “El Show de Niurka,” as well as top-quality novelas and a newly launched inspirational single-episode series called “Milagro de los Santos.”
