Balding buy builds Bozeman broadcast FM triple play

Manhattan suggests New York City, and Four Corners suggests the intersection of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. But in this case, Manhattan and Four Corners refer to towns in the Bozeman MT area, scene of a double-FM acquisition by Jeff and Susan Balding.

The Baldings are acquiring KKQX-FM Manhattan MT and KSCY-FM Four Corners MT under licensee name Silver Star Communications Inc. The seller is Radick Construction Inc., headed by John M. Radick V.

The effect of the sale will not be all that noticeable to area residents. The Baldings have been running the stations for some time in LMAs as Orion Media LLC. The LMA for KKQX dates back to 8/10/05, and the LMA for KSCY dates back to 6/15/08.

Orion already serves the market with big signal KBZM-FM Big Sky MT. Its Classic Hits format is also used on KKQX. KSCY utilizes a Country format.

KSCY’s 104.7 MHz signal is a C1 with 100 kW at 3,337’ HAAT. The stations being acquired are more modestly endowed. KKQX is a C2 on 105.7; KSCY is a C3 on 106.9.

The deal will not be much more obvious to the banking community than it will be for the stations’ listeners. Silver Star will put down a $1K deposit and pay another $1K at closing. The rest of the $200K purchase price will be paid over time pursuant to terms of a promissory note.
