A veteran media executive who started his career as a news producer at WHBQ-TV in Memphis in 1981 and has enjoyed lengthy stints at the radio arms of CBS News and ABC News has taken a top post at iHeartMedia.

Chris Berry is now SVP/News, Talk and Sports Programming, effective immediately, for the nation’s No. 1 operator of AMs and FMs, by station count.

Berry will oversee iHeart’s News, Talk and Sports brands, providing strategic guidance for the broadcast and digital media company’s spoken word formats—connecting key advertisers with iHeartMedia’s News, Talk and Sports audiences.

He will continue to serve as SVP/GM for NBC News Radio and 24/7 News Network, a role he has held since January 2011. Berry has spearheaded NBC News Radio’s editorial content since 24/7 News began syndicating the network in July 2016.

Berry’s prolific career in radio management includes roles as VP of ESPN Radio Los Angeles from 2009-2010, and a six-year-plus stint prior to that as President/GM of then-ABC Talker WMAL-AM in Washington, D.C.

At ABC Radio Networks, Berry from 1999-2002 served as VP/Radio.

From 1990-1996, he served as Director of News and Programming for WBBM-AM 780 in Chicago, for CBS Radio.

His first radio industry position came in 1982, when he took a Producer position at KNX-AM 1070 in Los Angeles, spending four years at the CBS station.
