Big radio gets nailed again

Clear Channel was just hit by the FCC for an improper phone call airing; now its CBS’s turn, for a contest violation. It was found by the FCC to have failed to adequately publicize the rules of the contest when it revoked a winner’s prize. At issues was an eating contest. The winner and FCC complainant was disqualified when it was learned that he was a member of a professional eating association and did not live in the listening area of the offending station, which was WIP-AM Philadelphia. These disqualifiers were not stated in the contest rules, putting CBS a violation of the regulations which will cost it a $4K fine.

RBR/TVBR observation: It just goes to show that size is not a factor when it comes to running afoul of the FCC.
