For 40 years it was Bill Dahle who delivered the morning news to people on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i. He had also been part owner of KUAI-AM. Dahle died of natural causes on Saturday (1/7) at age 69.

“He was the respected voice of the truth in the news,” said state senator Ron Kouchi in the local newspaper, The Garden Island.

“He truly left a mark on our community,” added Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.

Dahle, a Minnesota native, had worked in Los Angeles radio before he and business partners Ron Gay and John Short launched KUAI in the early 1960s. Dahle and Short also launched the local cable TV company now owned by Time Warner.

Dahle had retired in 2002 following the sale of KUAI.
