With the sudden departure of Eddie Murphy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is playing it safe with a substitute host for the Oscars telecast February 26th on ABC. Comedian Billy Crystal is coming back for his 9th appearance as host.
The announcement – not unexpected by any means – came from Crystal via his Twitter account: “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”
So add 2012 to this list of the years that Crystal has been the Oscars host: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2004.
