Now we know why the News-Talk station recently dropped the “The Bonds and Fisher Show.” Birach Broadcasting’s WCAR-AM GM Buzz Van Houten also mentioned the station has an exciting new format they were going to unveil in the very near future—and that’s ESPN Radio. It launches 2/1 on the station at 12:01 a.m. ET. The debut marks the return of ESPN Radio to Detroit for the first time since September 2007 (WXYT-AM).

“Detroit is nationally recognized as one of the top three sports towns in America, and we are ecstatic to bring the full force of the ESPN brand to Detroit’s loyal sports fans,” said Sima Birach Jr., on behalf of Birach Holdings Corp. “In addition to local programming which features some of Detroit’s iconic sports figures, we’re confident we’ll serve our listeners with the content they’ve been longing for.”

1090-AM will present ESPN Radio’s national studio programming to the Detroit market, including Mike & Mike in the Morning (6-10 a.m. ET), The Herd with Colin Cowherd (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) and The Scott Van Pelt Show (1-4 p.m.), as well as local sports updates every 20 minutes. ESPN Radio’s national play-by-play coverage on 1190-AM will include Major League Baseball and the NBA, including their regular seasons, All-Star Games, post-seasons and The Finals and World Series.
