The Songwriter Equity Act, introduced in the House 2/25, is picking up steam with Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Bob Corker (R-TN) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introducing their version for the Senate 5/12. The legislation charges the Copyright Royalty Board with trying to achieve fair market value when setting songwriter mechanical royalty rates on digital music services–in addition to four other metrics it already uses.
