Brain drain at Citadel Broadcasting


Being in a “sale pending” mode can make staffing difficult for a company. Citadel Broadcasting CEO Farid Suleman acknowledged in his quarterly conference call Wednesday that the company is facing recruiting and retention challenges while waiting to close the sale to Cumulus Media.

“I think with any merger it creates some uncertainty. It affects the mindset. We have lost people. Our people are being targeted. And at the same time it makes it harder to attract sales people,” Suleman said when analyst asked whether other broadcasters were poaching Citadel employees.

“But the good news is all of our managers are still in place and we’ve launched some incentives for giving to our sales people to stay in place. You know, it is normal merger-related stuff,” the CEO said, but added, “it’s business as usual.”
