The Shadow League has developed an online audience as an online hub dedicated to presenting “journalistically sound sports coverage through the lens of culture.”

The individual who presently serves as its EVP, who has experience at African American-centric cable TV network BET, has just joined the partnership in New York that is now the licensee of “Hot 97” and WBLS-FM.

Taking the newly created role of VP/Brand Partnerships for the Hip-Hop station, WQHT, and the heritage Urban Adult Contemporary FM is Jonathan Bates.

His resume includes roles as Director of Ad Sales at Max Networks, the exclusive local advertising partner for Condé Nast publications and Meredith parenting publications; and as Director of National Sales at AccuWeather.

At BET, Bates served as a senior digital account executive.

Bates starts his new job on Monday (3/23), and reports to SVP/Revenue Victor Giacomelli.

“Jonathan is an exceptional digital sales and marketing leader whose 20 years of digital experience will enable us to accelerate opportunities for clients to benefit from the wide array of authentic Hot 97 digital content opportunities,” Giacomelli said.

He added that Bates is expected to recruit a team of multicultural digital marketing specialists to partner with clients on a variety of Hot 97 digital and social opportunities.
