Broadcasters Foundation of America issues appeal

BFoA / Broadcasters Foundation of AmericaAs the charity for broadcasters and their families approaches its most critical fundraising season, Chairman Phil Lombardo and Vice Chairman Dick Foreman have issued a letter of appeal for the Guardian Fund on which all of their work among hurting and forgotten broadcasters depends:

“For everyone, this is surely the busiest time of the year … and often the most stressful.  For your Broadcasters Foundation … it is the most important and critical.

As you know, the Guardian Fund of the Broadcasters Foundation of America accepts individual and personal contributions for our humanitarian work on behalf of less fortunate broadcasters – past and present – and their families.

Thanks to you and other caring individuals in our profession, we have now assisted over 1,000 of our own colleagues who have fallen on hard times due to sudden illness, debilitating strokes, old age and general misfortune … often with absolutely no assistance of any kind when life turns sad and difficult and often desperate, in many cases we’ve seen.

Thus the Broadcasters Foundation of America is now the preeminent and absolutely essential national charity of the industry you have distinguished for so long.  Next year we will distribute, on your behalf, close to a million dollars to the hurting and almost forgotten.  And we need your urgent help to continue our Mission.

Even though you may have supported one of our events or tournaments this year, we hope you will make a special provision for the Guardian Fund on which all our efforts depend.

Contributions to the Guardian Fund in years gone by ranged from $50 up to $50,000 and over from several very generous benefactors.  And while we realize not everyone is capable of such magnificent generosity, we hope you will consider a substantial and significant gift this year.

Foundation president Jim Thompson and our new vice president Peter Doyle in our New York office (212-373-8250) will be glad to give you a confidential overview of their ongoing, daily humanitarian work in the face of great pain and suffering among our broadcasting brethren.

And as you look over our list of directors, you will recognize many you know from the world of Radio and Television who are doing some of the best volunteer work of their lives as hard-working, thoughtful, very active Board members of our Foundation.  You can be sure they are most careful and discriminating stewards of your generous gifts.

This is all by way of telling you of our personal hope that you’ll help us in a very special way this year.

All major Gifts to the Guardian Fund are gratefully acknowledged in our Annual Report widely distributed to several thousand broadcasters, community and corporate leaders and media professionals all across the nation.

Individual and Corporate contributions are fully deductible and may be made to the Guardian Fund of the Broadcasters Foundation of America, your profession’s officially certified and registered 501(c)3 national Public Charity.

Please send whatever you can … to our national office in New York City c/o our President Jim Thompson.”
