PARIS — The integration of SPI INTERNATIONAL within CANAL+ Group is now complete.

The transaction, which sees CANAL+ Group acquire 80% of SPI, comes following regulatory approval in each of the European jurisdictions concerned.

SPI INTERNATIONAL has a significant presence in Europe, where it enjoys broadcasting and content distribution. CANAL+ says it will bring to the company “great opportunities to strengthen Pay TV offers in all European markets and develop new ranges of services for the benefit of customers worldwide.”

CANAL+ Group is owned by Vivendi, and is an active free-to-air television entity.

That’s what makes the majority stake in SPI International so noteworthy, as that entity operates 42 TV channels, both free-to-air and subscription base. Its strength is in Poland, Romania, Serbia, the Netherlands and in the Czech Republic.
