Candidate Cain is one group's cup of Tea

Cox radio personality Herman Cain is currently testing the waters to see if there is room for him in the Republican presidential primaries in 2012. At a tea-party policy event held recently in Phoenix, Cain was the winner of an on-site straw poll, besting place and show candidates Ron Paul and Tim Pawlenty.

Cain, who plies the Atlanta airwaves over WSB AM-FM, pulled 22% of the votes, compared to 15% each for Paul and Pawlenty. Sarah Palin managed to grab 10%, and a number of candidates registered in single digits.

Others getting votes included Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Mitch Daniels.
Godfathers Pizza is the most often-mentioned item on the Cain resume. He has also been a senatorial candidate, and is a political commentator for Cox and a frequent guest on Fox News Channel.

The Los Angeles Times covered the event, and noted that one of the reasons Cain, Paul and Pawlenty topped the field in the straw poll was simple – they were the only candidates actually in attendance.

RBR-TVBR observation: In the long view of things, getting a fraction of a fractional portion of a major political party shouldn’t suddenly propel Cain to the top of the 2012 odds makers’ lists. But it does get his name out there, and you can’t argue with that.
