Candidate tries to duck the airwaves

You can run, but if we were your opponent, you would not be allowed to hide. Tim Mahoney (D-FL), who owes his seat in the House to the scandalous behavior of his predecessor Mark Foley (R-FL), is fending off scandals of his own. He bagged a televised debate last week to avoid the spotlight and reportedly may go into virtual hiding between now and the election. His opponent is Tom Rooney (R-FL). The district has traditionally sent a Republican to Congress, and only the well-publicized nature of Foley’s indiscretions allowed it to slip into Democratic hands. Mahoney’s problems make the seat perhaps the very best chance for the Republicans to take a seat back.

RBR/TVBR observation: As such, if we were in one of the Republican national committees, we’d be doing everything to assure that Mahoney is a major presence on the local television and radio scene, whether he wants to be there or not.
