Carter B. Smith dead at 74

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the death of Carter B. Smith, famed radio personality in the San Francisco market for more than 50 years. He succumbed to brain cancer at age 74.


A Bay Area native, Smith began his long radio career at KRE-AM Berkeley and got his big break as a news reporter for KSFO-AM San Francisco, where he became the side-kick to the legendary Don Sherwood. Smith went on to drivetime shows at other stations in the market, ending when KABL-AM switched formats in 2005.
