The long-rumored flip of Alternative/AAA Radio 92-3 in Cleveland has been confirmed. CBS Radio announced that 92.3 The Fan will launch 8/29. Andy Roth was named PD. He joins from Buffalo’s WGR-AM, and also has experience at CBS Radio’s WFAN New York and WIP in Philadelphia.
“What we are launching is literally a radio station for ‘The Fan,’” Roth said. “For Clevelanders who live and breathe sports 24/7, this will be the place to get the best insight, most in-depth coverage and a well-rounded balance of listener participation, all presented in an entertaining forum.”
The station will compete with Cleveland’s other all-sports station, Good Karma Broadcasting’s ESPN 850, WKNR-AM. 92.3 will be home to Westwood One’s coverage of the NFL, formerly airing on WKNR. NFL games include all but one of the national football broadcasts on Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights; and Big 10 football. Additional programming will include postgame shows immediately following all the local professional football, basketball and baseball games, as well as appearances by players, coaches, and media experts.
The Fan will feature locally produced programs hosted by familiar Cleveland voices, along with headline updates every 20 minutes and a full lineup of NFL and college football play-by-play coverage. It will also be available at 923TheFan.com.
Kevin Kiley and Cleveland native Chuck Booms will occupy host morning-drive, competing against ESPN’s “Mike and Mike in the Morning.” Adam “The Bull,” formerly of WFAN New York, will fill afternoon drive from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.
Along with WKRK, CBS Radio all-sports stations now include:
New York (WFAN-AM)
Washington, D.C. (WJFK-FM)
