CBS wins the week across the board

CBSCBS posted an across-the-board win with the highest weekly averages of any network this season in viewers, adults 18-49 (tie) and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Jan. 13, Week 16 of the 2012-2013 season.


In the week, CBS became the first network since 2007 to have two scripted series deliver live plus same day audiences of 20 million viewers or more—NCIS (21.11m) and THE BIG BANG THEORY (20.0m).  CBS last accomplished the feat in the week of Nov. 5, 2007 when CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION delivered 21.9 million viewers and “Without a Trace” had 21.6 million.

The last time any network had both a drama and comedy with 20 or more million viewers in the same week was the week of May 16, 2005, when CBS had two comedies (“Everybody Loves Raymond” series finale, TWO AND A HALF MEN) and three dramas (CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, “CSI: Miami” and “Without a Trace”).

The week saw THE BIG BANG THEORY hit series highs for the second consecutive week, while NCIS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, UNDERCOVER BOSS, CSI: NY, THE GOOD WIFE  and 48 HOURS all had season-high ratings.

CBS was first in households (8.2/13) and viewers (13.28m) with the best weekly performance in these measures by any network this season.  CBS posted the Network’s best weekly delivery in these measures since the week ending Feb. 12, 2012.

For the week in key demographics, CBS was first in adults 25-54 (4.3/10) and adults 18-49 (3.3/09).  CBS posted the season’s best weekly delivery in adults 25-54 for any network and matched the best weekly delivery this season in adults 18-49 (with FOX’s World Series week).  CBS posted the Network’s best weekly delivery in these measures since the week ending Feb. 12, 2012.

For the week in viewers:  CBS (13.28m), FOX (7.67m), NBC (6.84m) and ABC (6.36m).   Season-to-date:  CBS (11.38m), NBC (8.66m), ABC (7.97m) and FOX (6.72m).

For the week in key demographics, CBS was first in both adults 25-54 (4.3/10) and adults 18-49 (3.3/09). Season-to-date, CBS is first in adults 25-54 (3.6/09) and second in adults 18-49 (2.7/08).

For the week in households:  CBS (8.2/13), FOX (4.4/07), NBC (4.3/07) and ABC (4.1/06).  Season-to-date:  CBS (7.212), NBC (5.3/09), ABC (5.1/08) and FOX (4.0/06).

CBS Weekly Highlights:

— On Tuesday, CBS was first in households (10.5/16), viewers (16.64m), adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and adults 18-49 (2.7/07).  CBS posted its best Tuesday delivery with these programs in households, viewers and adults 25-54 since Sep. 25, 2012 (premiere week Tuesday) and in adults 18-49 since Nov. 27, 2012.

NCIS was first in households (13.1/20), viewers (21.11m), adults 25-54 (5.3/13) and adults 18-49 (3.5/10).  NCIS posted its best viewer delivery since Feb. 22, 2011, in adults 25-54 since Sep. 25, 2012 and in adults 18-49 since Nov. 27, 2012.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES was first in households (11.2/17), viewers (17.90m), adults 25-54 (4.4/10) and adults 18-49 (3.0/08).  NCIS: LOS ANGELES posted its best households delivery since its series premiere on Sep. 22, 2009, its best viewers delivery since Feb. 22, 2011, best adults 25-54 performance since Sep. 25, 2012 and matched the last first-run adults 18-49 rating, which was the best since Oct. 9, 2012.

VEGAS was first in households (7.1/12), viewers (10.92m), adults 25-54 (2.5/06) and second in adults 18-49 (1.6/04).  VEGAS posted its best households delivery since Oct. 23, 2012, viewers and adults 25-54 deliveries since Oct. 9, 2012 and matched the last adults 18-49 delivery which was the best since Nov. 27, 2012.

I GET THAT A LOT 1/9 (S) was first in households (4.7/07),  second in viewers (7.46m, -0.06m behind ABC), adults 25-54 (2.6/06) and adults 18-49 (1.9/05).

THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS (S) was first in households (6.3/10) and viewers (9.72m), tied for first in adults 25-54 (3.4/08, with ABC) and second in adults 18-49 (2.7/07).  Compared to the same special last year (on Jan. 11, 2012), THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS was up +7% in households (from 5.9/09), +13% in adults 25-54 (from 3.0/07), +8% in adults 18-49 (from 2.5/07) and added +840,000 viewers (from 8.88m, +10%).

— On Thursday, CBS was first in households (9.1/15), viewers (14.83m), adults 25-54 (5.0/12) and adults 18-49 (3.7/10) – the second-best Thursday delivery this season for CBS.  Compared to the same night last year, CBS was up +5% in households, +4% in adults 25-54 and +6% in adults 18-49.

THE BIG BANG THEORY swept its time period, finishing first in households (12.0/19), viewers (20.00m), adults 25-54 (8.3/21), adults 18-49 (6.4/19) and adults 18-34 (4.4/15).  THE BIG BANG THEORY posted series highs for the second consecutive week in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 while matching its second-best delivery in adults 18-34.

TWO AND A HALF MEN (8:31-9:01 PM) was first in households (8.8/14), viewers (14.40m), adults 25-54 (5.5/13) and adults 18-49 (4.2/12).

PERSON OF INTEREST was first in households (9.6/15), viewers (15.67m), adults 25-54 (4.6/11) and adults 18-49 (3.3/09).

ELEMENTARY was first in households (7.3/12), viewers (11.48m) and adults 25-54 (3.4/08) and was second in adults 18-49 (2.4/07).

— On Friday, CBS was first in households (6.3/11), viewers (10.30m) and adults 25-54 (2.5/06) and was tied for first in adults 18-49 (1.6/05, with ABC).  CBS posted its best Friday with regularly scheduled programs in household and adults 18-49 rating since Nov. 30, 2012, in viewers and adults 25-54 since Feb. 17, 2012.

UNDERCOVER BOSS was first in households (5.6/09), viewers (9.09m), adults 25-54 (2.6/07) and adults 18-49 (1.8/06).  UNDERCOVER BOSS posted its best viewers delivery since March 9, 2012, and its best performances in households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since Nov. 9, 2012.

CSI: NY was first in households (6.6/11) and viewers (10.71m), and was second in both adults 25-54 (2.5/06) and adults 18-49 (1.6/05).  CSI: NY posted its best household rating since Feb. 10, 2012, its best viewers total since Oct. 21, 2011, its best adults 25-54 rating since Feb. 6, 2012 and its best adults 18-49 rating since April 6, 2012.

BLUE BLOODS was first in households (6.9/12), viewers (11.22m) and adults 25-54 (2.4/06) and was tied for first in adults 18-49 (1.6/05, with NBC).  BLUE BLOODS posted its best households performance since Dec. 7, 2012, its best viewers and adults 25-54 ratings since Nov. 30, 2012 and its best adults 18-49 rating since April 6, 2012.

— CBS’s late-running AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME from 8:00-8:53 PM (Baltimore Ravens At Denver Broncos) posted a 23.3/37 with 42.51m viewers, 16.3/40 in adults 25-54 and 14.1/40 in adults 18-49.  The AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF POSTGAME from 8:53-9:08 PM delivered a 5.8/09 with 9.36m viewers, 3.5/08 in adults 25-54 and 3.1/08 in adults 18-49.

48 HOURS (4.0/07, 5.72m; 10:08-11:08PM) posted its best adults 25-54 (1.8/04) delivery since May 12, 2012 (48 HOURS MYSTERY) and best adults 18-49 (1.3/04) rating since May 5, 2012 (48 HOURS MYSTERY).

— On Sunday, CBS was first in households (11.2/17), viewers (18.40m) and adults 25-54 (6.3/14), and was tied for first in adults 18-49 (5.1/12 with NBC).  CBS posted its best Sunday households and viewer deliveries since Feb. 12, 2012 (Grammy Awards Sunday) and its best adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 ratings since Dec. 16, 2012.

CBS’s late-running AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME from 7:00-7:59 PM (Houston Texans at New England Patriots) posted a 21.7/33 with 37.85m viewers, 14.9/34 in adults 25-54 and 12.8/34 in adults 18-49.  The AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF POSTGAME from 7:59-8:07 PM delivered a 13.6/20 with 22.89m viewers, 8.9/20 in adults 25-54 and 7.5/19 in adults 18-49.

THE GOOD WIFE (9:07-10:07 PM) was second in households (6.7/10), viewers (10.04m) and adults 25-54 (2.7/06), and was fourth in adults 18-49 (1.9/04)   THE GOOD WIFE posted its best household delivery since Nov. 18, 2012, best viewer total since April 22, 2012 and matched season highs in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

THE MENTALIST (10:07-11:07 PM) was second in households (6.9/11), viewers (10.60m), adults 25-54 (2.8/07) and adults 18-49 (2.1/05).  THE MENTALIST matched its season-best adults 18-49 ratings and matched the season’s second-best adults 25-54 ratings.
