The annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is to raise funds and awareness for fighting Muscular Dystrophy, but four new artists got the chance to raise their profiles during the annual Labor Day weekend broadcast. They were the winners of Clear Channel radio’s “Get Discovered” contest.

The contest was part of CC Radio’s three-month national campaign to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), which also included approximately $3.5 million in in-kind advertising that ran across 200 Clear Channel Radio stations to promote the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon this year.

The “Get Discovered” contest gave independent and unsigned music artists an opportunity to submit their music via any Clear Channel Radio station website or iheartradio.com for a chance to perform live at this year’s event.  Clear Channel Radio’s 845 stations actively promoted the event, contest, and the four lucky winners in support of the MDA Telethon.

The four talented contest winners, whose captivating original performances were stand outs in the “Get Discovered” contest and during the Telethon, were:

Rock/Alternative Winner:
Last Perfect thing
Song: Charles
Market:  Asbury Park, New Jersey

Hit Winner:
Hollywood Burnout
Song: Circles
Market: Des Moines, Iowa

Country Winner:
Billy Dawson
Song: She Makes Me
Market: Nashville, Tennessee

At Large Winner:
Beau Davidson
Song: Our Days In The Sun
Market: Nashville, Tennessee

“The ‘Get Discovered’ contest winners were fantastic performers and their participation added a new unique twist to this year’s successful Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. We’re thankful for their participation and appreciate everyone at Clear Channel Radio’s hard work and contributions in making the contest a success and helping raise the visibility for the great work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the enduring popularity of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon,” said John Hogan, President and CEO of Clear Channel Radio.

“Without the amazing promotional support of iheartradio and Clear Channel Radio stations nationwide, there’s no way that the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon would have achieved its $58.9 million tote – especially given the troubled economy,” said MDA President & CEO and Telethon Executive Producer Gerald C. Weinberg.

A total of approximately 925 unique artists and bands entered the “Get Discovered” contest with close to 1,500 songs submitted. A Clear Channel Radio personality from each of the winners’ hometown markets also participated in the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon by introducing the “Get Discovered” artists and bands.
