The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)‘s signature Consumer Electronics Show, commonly known as CES, is set to usher in 2017 with another dynamic series of conference panelists and featured speakers.
CES 2017 is set for Jan. 5-8, again in Las Vegas.
Guess who’s set to address attendees?
FCC Commissioners Mignon Clyburn, Michael O’Reilly and Ajit Pai are set to be in attendance. So will FCC Chief Information Officer David Bray.
Who won’t be there?
Outgoing FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. Wheeler was originally scheduled to attend for one of his last official addresses in this role.
It was learned late Thursday (12/22) that he has a scheduling conflict and that his attendance at CES was tentative from the start.
Radio and television talk may take a back seat to topics such at net neutrality and the “Internet of Things,” the latter of which will see more than a dozen government officials working in the data analytics and Internet of Things space speak on the Government Business Executive Forum’s CES Government panels.
“Technology and innovation are major drivers of the U.S. economy and generate economic activity that amounts to over 10% of U.S. GDP and supports 15 million jobs,” said CTA President/CEO Gary Shapiro. ” Our industry promotes a better future by creating jobs and providing solutions to global challenges. 2017 will be a critical year for ensuring government and tech work together on common goals. We are proud that CES continues to provide the best forum for open dialogue among all levels of government and leaders in technology.”
