Charlie Morgan Says Farewell To Emmis

After more than a decade with stations associated with Emmis Communications, including six years in Indianapolis before shifting to the Big Apple, Charlie Morgan is exiting.

His departure as SVP/GM of what today are Emmis/Mediaco-owned WBLS-FM & WQHT-FM “Hot 97” in New York follows the recent transfer of control of Emmis’ FM stations to the new entity run by Emmis in partnership with Soohyung Kim, the man demanding a TEGNA board seat.

Morgan was instrumental in leading a turnaround of Emmis operations in Indianapolis, which he joined in September 2009 as SVP/Market Manager. He then moved to New York in January 2016.

Prior roles include that of VP/Market Manager for Cumulus’ Indianapolis stations as of May 2006. Before that, he led WFMS-FM, WFTK-FM & WJJK-FM in Indianapolis for Susquehanna.

Morgan will continue his role as a Partner at The Rith Group, which provides strategy, marketing, media content, and leadership consulting services to multiple industries.

Emmis/Mediaco President Patrick Walsh will serve as interim New York Market Manager while the search is conducted for Morgan’s permanent replacement.

In a brief statement, Emmis said Morgan’s “focus on product quality, operational excellence, innovation and perhaps most important on culture and talent development as the ultimate path to winning have been central to our success. Charlie’s emphasis on building great teams through coaching and development has enhanced the careers of countless colleagues over the years. We sincerely thank him for all his efforts, and wish him the absolute best in his next endeavor.”
