Chattanooga backfill deal gets school back in the radio biz

Last summer, Tennessee Temple University sold its WDYN-FM Chattanooga TN to noncommercial religious network Bible Broadcasting Network. But it turns out that the educational institution had no intention of getting out of the radio business for good – it has just announced its plan to acquire WUUS-AM in the same market.

The seller is 3 Daughters Media, Inc. According to Media Services Group broker Eddie Esserman, who represented the buyer, the price will be $175K cash.

WUUS is officially located across the state line from Chattanooga, licensed to Rossville GA.

TTU will have a lot of cash left over from it de facto radio facility trade-down. The WDYN deal, which was also brokered by Esserman, went into the books at $2.5M, leaving TTU with a smaller radio station but a net of $2.325M in cash. The WDYN deal was filed with the FCC 8/11/10.
