The Seventh Annual Cox Radio WPLR-FM Chaz & AJ Toy Drive brought in over $70,000 in cash and toys last Friday December 11th at Sports Haven in New Haven, Connecticut. The Live Broadcast benefited 14 local charities with their quest to give toys to Connecticut children in need. During the 4 ½ hour live broadcast, an array of local and national personalities entertained the crowd. Guests included Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell, Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele, who sang opera, and NASCAR driver Joey Logano. Members of the rock group Blue Oyster Cult performed live on stage and local politicians chimed in with vocals to the Chipmunk’s Christmas Song.
Cash and toys raised were donated to the children at The Waterbury Regional Children’s Probate Court, The Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic of New Haven, Casa Otonal Community Center, The Boys & Girls Village, The Children’s Center of Hamden, The Rushford Center, Liberation Programs Inc., Community Health Resources, Konover Residential, Center for Human Services, New Haven Public Schools Grandparents On The Move Program, The Miracle House, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and The Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy.
