Clear ChannelA group identified only as “a private family foundation” paid for billboards in Ohio and Wisconsin warning about harsh consequences of voter fraud. Activist groups, including ColorOfChange.org, protested and CCO decided to pull the ads.

According to a CCO spokesperson, it is against company policy to run political advertising from anonymous sources. The client that bought the billboards was given the option of taking responsibility and opted instead to allow them to come down.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the billboards message was this: “Voter fraud is a felony! 3 ½ Yrs & $10,000 Fine.”

ColorOfChange, known for its successful advertiser boycott of the since-cancelled Glenn Beck program on Fox News Channel, noted that the billboards were bought exclusively in minority neighborhoods and charged discriminations and an attempt to attach fear to the act of casting a vote.

According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, CCO has gone a step further in Wisconsin, teaming with election officials in Milwaukee to get out the vote and to promote early voting.
