Cox Media Group (CMG) Birmingham has launched (9/26) 105.1 FM WALJ Jamz, a Rhythmic Hip Hop station dedicated to Tuscaloosa, AL—a market that was hit hard by tornadoes this past Spring.

The new station is a Class A licensed to Northport, AL and owned by Charleston, SC-based Apex Broadcasting. CMG has an LMA with Apex.

The station features The Roy Wood Jr. Morning Show with Nu York and B Money. Roy Wood Jr. is a comedian hailing from Birmingham and garnered national attention on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” as well stints on The Jay Leno Show, Comic View and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam.

“Cox Media Group is pleased to be able to bring a quality full service local radio station to address the needs of the Tuscaloosa business community and deliver a needed and popular format niche to West Alabama,” said GSM Linda McNeal. “We will continue the Cox tradition of community service and support.”
