CommComm change in the works

Ted Stevens (R-AK) wasn’t the only member of the Senate Commerce Committee locked in a close race that went unresolved on Election Day. However, now he’s the only one left after Gordon Smith (R-OR) conceded victory to Jeff Merkley (D-OR). Stevens is still waiting for a final count of absentee and provisional ballots. He then faces an uncertain future upon returning to Washington. It is possible Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will be able to stave off any drastic action until Stevens is able to mount an appeal to his conviction on corruption charges. Stevens has continued to proclaim his innocence of any wrongdoing.
