KOJY-FM Bloomfield IA is going into a unique duopoly with KRNF-FM Montezuma IA. That is because it is a commercial FM, while KRNF is licensed as an NCE station. The new owner will be Horizon Broadcasting Inc., headed by Douglas Smiley. Seller Bloomfield Broadcasting Company’s compensation will be being allowed to walk away from the station – the terms cite an unspecified amount of debt forgiveness.
RBR/TVBR observation: There have been groups that specialized in running side-by-side commercial and noncommercial stations. The Baker family’s aptly-named Baker Family Stations and Positive Alternative Radio come instantly to mind, and there have been quire a few others.. So this combination is not without precedent.
