Tampa Bay is missing “The Point” as Cox Media Group (CMG) blew up the 80s-90s station on Friday (7/1) to launch CHR WPOI-FM “Hot 101.5, All the Hits!”

“For the first time in 22 years, Tampa Bay has a new hit radio station playing all the hits,” CMG announced. Hot 101.5 debuted at 11:00 am ET on Friday and will spend the Independence Day weekend playing 10,000 songs in a row commercial free.

“Tampa Bay loves this type of music. Now, this massive audience has a station that plays more of it than any other station in town,” said Keith Lawless, CMG Vice President & Market Manager. “The new Hot 101.5 will be the station women 18-34 years of age can count on for the hottest hits.”

CMG is making no bones about calling out market leader WFLZ-FM, which is owned by Clear Channel. A video on the new website and Hot 101.5’s Facebook page ridicules ‘FLZ for “tons of commercials and way too much talk.” It also mentions ‘FLZ morning host “MJ” by name, noting that he has been getting “older and older.” According to his Wikipedia bio, the morning host (Todd Schnitt) is 45.
