Cronkite family confirms serious illness

Following recent reports that 92-year-old Walter Cronkite is gravely ill, followed by his assistant insisting that the reports about the health of the retired CBS News anchor were exaggerated, his family has issued a statement to clear up the confusion. Cronkite, they said, “is not expected to recuperate.”

Here is the statement:

“In order to dispel false rumors, Walter Cronkite’s family wants it known that he has apparently suffered for some years with cerebrovascular disease and he is not expected to recuperate. He is resting comfortably at home with family, friends, and a wonderful medical team. We thank you for your prayers and good wishes.”

Cerebrovascular disease is a disease of the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. It often leads to stroke.
